Dryer wouldnt work

Dryer wouldnt work. I was out of town when dryer stopped working. My grandmaother, who I live with, had brother came over to troubleshoot. He spent a good amount of time and couldnt figure out the problem.
When I returned home I tried it and immediately knew the knob was stripped because it didnt make the clicking noises. I verified by seeing where flat section was, then turning with knob and then seeing if flat section moved. Ordered new knob. Pulled old one off and put new one. Worked like a charm

Frozen timer

1. Remove three screws from back of dryer
2. Tilt top panel forward and disengage
3. Swapped wiring one by one from old timer to new timer
4. Reinstall

The new timer worked so well that even the old, broken knobs could turn it. But I replaced the knobs anyway.

Customer service was great in helping me verify that this timer would work on this dryer (my model number was not listed on the website).

Timer knob cracked twice. Found out the timer switch was bad.

Removed the 3 knobs. They just pull off. Removed 6 screws on the back side of the control panel. The front (plastic panel then just separates from the back). Then look at how the switch is mounted on the plastic panel. There should be 2 small pieces of plastic that holds it in. Carefully twist the switch in the appropriate direction so it comes free. Before you remove any wires from the old switch remember what colors go where ! I used needle nose pliers to remove the connections from the switch. Make the new connections, mount the switch, put the screws back in the panel. BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING. UNPLUG THE ELECTRICAL CORD !!! Read more...

Timer Knob

PartSelect Number PS1482197

Manufacturer Part Number WE1M654

This timer knob is used to set the dryer cycle by advancing the timer. The plastic can become brittle with age and crack where it attaches to the timer shaft. You will need to replace this part if it slips off the shaft and cannot advance the timer. If it constantly falls off and will not stay on the shaft by itself, it may be cracked or broken and need to be replaced. This model is roughly 3 inches in diameter and made of white plastic. Sold individually.

broken knob that turned too freely and did nothing

I wasn't sure that a new knob/clip would fix problem b/c shaft wouldn't turn with pliers. But knob was so inexpensive I wanted to try it first. I received the new knob/clip and the dryer worked perfectly; the knob had been broken for a year before it had quit working entirely. Don't let someone tell you that you need a whole new timer before you try the new knob/clip. Still working perfectly and I'm so pleased. And my part arrived within 2 days-wonderful! Read more...
